The telecoms industry in Poland is growing at a very fast pace in regards to mobile cellular line usage. As of 2009, there were approximately 45 million active mobile cellular lines. Today, there are over 51 million active mobile cellular lines and counting. This growth has however been experienced in the mobile cellular industry only. The number of active main lines has been decreasing since 2007, from over 10 million active main lines in 2007, only 6 million are in use today. This shows a clear shift from main lines to mobile as is often the case globally.

On a broader perspective, Poland’s telephone system is fairly modernized which is one of the main reasons behind accelerated growth and market-based competition. The fixed line telephone service in Poland is dominated by a former state-owned company. The services are however dwarfed by mobile cellular services which have been available in Poland since 1993. Mobile cellular services are provided by 4 nationwide networks which cover the entire country with a few small gaps in rural eastern regions.
